空山基1947年出生於日本愛媛縣今治市，以描繪細緻入微的情色女性肖像畫最為聞名。他在美術領域以及插畫、工業設計方面皆頗具知名度，索尼公司所研發的原創電子寵物狗即為空山基的設計。他在1965年進入日本四國學院大學學習英文文學，其後為了學習美術，在1967年進入東京中央美術學院學習。藝術家結合金屬質地於情色的作品，造型質感獨特而嫵媚，在世界各地廣受好評。
